the day after.

Posted by bradandsara on November 5, 2008

so we got ourselves a new president last night! finally, the commercials interrupting my tv and radio time are gone. praise the lord!

this morning as i woke up and got ready, i could help but feel like i just went up a notch in terms of my importance. that all of us did. last night, we all witnessed history. for our parents’ generation, last night was a chapter of their story that includes growing up during the days of martin luther king jr. for people of our generation, last night was a chapter of our story that includes remembering our voices can be heard when we do things such as vote or engage in conversations about what we really do dream of for our country. for the next generation, who knows….but their story will be great because of what happened last night.

regardless of how you feel about the candidates, we were all a part of history last night. and that is what we should focus on, for right now. come january, we’ll settle down to the business of passing laws and legislation, but for today, lets all remember that we changed the course of our country. and that while it might be 40 years later and after we have left this life, change is always worth fighting for.

today, i am proud that i will be able to tell my children and grandchildren that i was alive and watched the results come in on november 4, 2008…when america elected their first black president. and honestly, i would have felt the same way, had the results gone to the republicans. maybe even more so since i am a woman…who knows. we all knew going into last night, history would be made, either way. and i was excited and will continue to be excited that all of us, regardless of which box we filled, we all collectively a part of something bigger than ourselves.

i know hardly anyone reads this blog…but i still had to put it out there. :)
